For a standard epidural insertion, use item 18216. If you do a consultation, item 17680 may also be applicable.

If the epidural is after hours, use item 18226, with or without 17680.

Both these items are for attendances of up to one hour. If the attendance goes for longer than one hour, you should also use item 18219 (in hours) or 18227 (after hours). These will calculate an additional fee for each 15 min of time after one hour. To use these items, you must first include the corresponding basic item 18216 or 18226.

When you enter 18219 or 18227 on the account, you will be asked how to display the derived fee.

For most purposes you should choose option 1.

This will calculate the fee based on the times you have entered on the Operation page.

For example, the following items will be used for an after hours epidural of 1 h 15 min.

Note that these items should not be used as part of an RVG anaesthesia service. More info.
