Logging onto the server from overseas

In late 2018, we migrated our virtual server version of Access Anaesthetics to be hosted by Macquarie Cloud Services. Macquarie is a preferred cloud provider to the Australian Government and our server has been set up in a dedicated environment known as the 'health cloud'. This environment has enhanced security, and standard connections are only possible from Australian IP addresses. If a client needs to connect from an overseas location, a VPN (virtual private network) connection is required. Please contact us if you expect to require access from overseas in the near future.

Each user wishing to log on from overseas will need a specific VPN username and password in addition to their current server connection details. Once you have these, you can log on as follows.

Connection via a web browser.

This is the simplest and quickest way to log onto the server via the VPN. However, local printing is not available when logged in via a browser. If you need to print from the server, use the FortiClient method below.

1.Open a web browser window and go to https://macvpn.healthbase.com.au
2.You may get a message about the website's security certificate. This can be ignored. (In Internet Explorer, click Continue..., In Chrome, click Advanced > Proceed ..)
3.Enter your VPN username and password. Both the username and password are case sensitive.
4.Click the Secure Access icon.
5.Enter your server username and password. The server will open in the browser window.

Connection via FortiClient

This method gives full server functionality, including local printing.

1.Start up FortiClient on your PC. (See below for how to install.)
2.Click Remote Access.
3.Enter your VPN password and click <Connect>.  Both the username and password are case sensitive.
4.The VPN will connect and display connection details. You can leave this window open, minimize it, or close it, and the connection will stay active until you click <Disconnect>.
5.Open your Remote Desktop Connection in the usual way using the Remote Desktop Connection program on your PC or Mac. Use the computer name SecureAccess.healthbase.com.au (not CloudAccess.healthbase.com.au). Enter your regular server username and password to connect. If you haven't logged into the VPN, the SecureAccess server will not be accessible.

After you finish work, log out of the server as usual, then click Disconnect in FortiClient. If you have closed the window, it can be opened from the system tray. If there is no activity in the VPN for 90 min, you will be logged out of the VPN automatically.

Initial setup with FortiClient

1.Download and install FortiClient from https://forticlient.com/downloads.
2.Start up FortiClient.
3.Click Remote Access > Configure VPN.

Connection Name = anything you like, e.g. AA_VPN
Remote Gateway = MacVPN.healthbase.com.au
Authentication - select 'Save login'
Username = <your VPN username>

4.Save

Points to note

The password for the VPN connection can only be changed by the server administrator. Contact us if you would like to use a different password. If you use the VPN on a long-term basis, you will be prompted to change your password after 60 days.
The standard Australian server address is CloudAccess.healthbase.com.au. This is not accessible from outside Australia.
The server address when using the VPN connection is SecureAccess.healthbase.com.au. This is not accessible from within Australia, unless connecting via the VPN.
If the VPN is idle for 90 minutes, that is, no active connection to the server, the VPN will log you out. The server itself will log you out after 60 min of inactivity.
