Access Anaesthetics runs by opening either the file AA97.mde or AA2000.mde. If you are using Access 97 or Access 97 runtime, you should open the file AA97.mde. For all later versions of MS Access (2000 - 2010), you should open AA2000.mde. If you are using a desktop shortcut to open Access Anaesthetics, the shortcut target needs to point to the correct program file for your version of MS Access.

To check which file you are opening, right click on the desktop shortcut, left click on Properties, and check the file in the Target field, on the Shortcut tab. If it is the incorrect version, change it to the correct one, click OK, and try opening AA again.

If you have more than one version of Microsoft Access on your computer, the shortcut may be opening the incorrect version of Microsoft Access. To address this, open Microsoft Access itself by locating it on the Start > Programs menu. It may be listed separately, or it may be inside the Microsoft Office folder. Once you have done this, close it again and try to open Access Anaesthetics in the usual way.

If you have previously used the 97 runtime version of AA, the shortcut above may have a reference to the Access 97 runtime file. For example, the target box may display "C:\Access Anaesthetics\Office\MSAccess.exe" "C:\Access Anaesthetics\AA2000.mde". If so, you should remove the text on the left side of the space, so it reads only "C:\Access Anaesthetics\AA2000.mde". Note that the text on the left may not be visible until you click into the field and scroll to the left with the left arrow button.

If you do edit the shortcut as described, you should launch Microsoft Access separately once more (Start > Programs etc), before trying to use the shortcut to start Access Anaesthetics.
