July 2021 Update for Cutting Edge and Access Anaesthetics users

JULY SCHEDULE UPDATES

The majority of the July 2021 Medicare and Funds schedule updates are now available in CESoft. We are still waiting on schedules to be published for ADF, Grand United, HBF and Mildura and will upload them as soon as they become available. Cutting Edge users will have these updates automatically. Access Anaesthetics user will have already received a separate email with update instructions.

Summary

The MBS Review Taskforce has made substantial changes to the MBS from 1 July 2021, notably for general & orthopaedic surgery and cardiac procedures.

General surgery
The changes include 35 new items, 50 amended items and 73 deleted items relating to laparoscopies and laparotomies, small bowel resections, abdominal wall hernia repairs, oncology and bariatric services, surgical excisions, and procedures relating to the oesophageal, stomach, liver, biliary, pancreas, spleen and lymph nodes.

Orthopaedic surgery
The changes include 168 new items, 280 amended items, 137 superseded items where services have been consolidated into new or amended items, and 9 deleted items for services considered to be obsolete or no longer best practice.

Cardiac services
The range of changes to cardiac surgical services include updates to item descriptors, combining similar surgical procedures, introducing items that represent a complete medical service, incentivising advanced techniques, removal of procedures that no longer represent best practice, and reducing low value angiography and coronary artery stenting by aligning the items with appropriate use criteria. There will also be some minor changes to existing cardiac imaging services

Anaesthetic services

Anaesthetic items are generally unchanged apart from a small indexation. The MBS unit value has increased from $20.40 to $20.60.

A full description of these changes can be viewed on the following Medicare website.

BRISBANE WORKSHOP AND ASA CONFERENCE UPDATE

Due to the current COVID-19 situation our face-to-face activities are being reviewed. We will keep you informed of any changes to our July program.

Private workshop

At the time of writing we are still planning to be demonstrating our new software in Brisbane on 23rd July in a private session and lunch for our customers at the Mantra on Queen, 570 Queen St, Brisbane City. If you haven’t already reserved a place, contact us now by email at support@cesoft.com.au

ASA Congress

We have reserved a booth at the ASA National Scientific Congress 23-25 July. The conference organisers have been in touch to inform us they will decide by 9 July if the congress can go ahead in person or as a virtual event. As soon as we have news on that we’ll let you now.

In light of the current spate of travel restrictions, we’re happy to arrange online demonstrations of the new Cutting Edge Software for your group or practice staff. Please get in touch. We'll be delighted to organise something for you.
